Tangled Memories

Tangled Memories is a collection of artwork that explores my experiences with my Dad’s early-onset Alzheimer’s. He was diagnosed in his early 50’s, when I was still a teenager, and died in 2000 at the age of 65. It was certainly a challenge to create such personal work about a painful time in my life, but I appreciated the chance to reflect and creatively process my experiences. I am humbled by how many people resonated with the work and deeply saddened by how many people are directly affected by this horrible disease.

This work was shown in a two-person exhibit at Translations Art Gallery with fellow artist, Marcy Axelband, whose father was suffering with Alzheimer's at that time.  To view the works below with their accompanying artist statements, please visit my blog at: www.michelewaalkes.blogspot.com.
